Southwest Didn’t Invite Airbus to Bid
Southwest Airlines didn’t ask Airbus to submit a commercial bid for the A220-300, three knowledgeable sources tell Leeham News. (leehamnews.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
What's the big deal. Buy from the supplier you want. Obviously SW thinks this makes sense for them.
ok, and?
An American Company buying from an American Company. Wow,what a concept. Lets keep the jobs here in the USA.
Not as clear-cut as waving the flag sport. A220s are now assembled in Mobile Alabama which, if my memory serves me well, is still in the USA.
I think for SW it came down to they are already using Boeing planes and parts inter change pretty easy from plane to plane with Boeing sometimes. So rather than having to have inventory for 2 different types of aircraft they and manufactures they stayed with the one. Not a bad move considering they are also more familiar with Boeing products. Less retraining involved then having to train how to work on Airbus. Bottom line everyone is going to like certain planes just like they do trucks or anything. I think it was all about keeping cost down.
It may be built in the USA, but the company is a European company meaning profits go to Europe. Hondas are made in the USA too, does that make them an American car company? No, they are still a Japanese company, and the profits go to Japan.
No bid contracts always provide the best return for executives. Boeing's greed cost more than half again as many lives as the Beirut blast. The Lebanese actually arrested people, too.
