Airlines add fire-containment bags for overheating devices
If you're worried about flying on a plane where passengers may have a Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the airlines want you to know it's in the bag. Airlines have begun installing fire-containment bags on their planes to address the threat posed by overheating lithium ion batteries in mobile devices during flights. Alaska Airlines and Virgin America have already stocked their fleets with the bags, according to the Associated Press. i'm just wondering. what would george carlin do with this material? i bet he could do an entire segment with this incident alone.
This article is four days old. I believe more restrictions have come out since then, at least in the USA. I still have my 'flip phone' and it's never caught fire :-)
This isn't just about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Just about anything using a Lithium Ion or other high-capacity battery has the potential to overheat and/or catch fire. So while any devices specifically banned in the US and many other countries will hopefully be kept off aircraft, the need for these bags still exists, and I applaud the airlines for taking action.
my hotspot did not catch fire. it just exploded.
Nor has my bag phone!
The Galaxy Note has now been banned by the Feds on commercial airlines.
