Airlines add fire-containment bags for overheating devices

If you're worried about flying on a plane where passengers may have a Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the airlines want you to know it's in the bag. Airlines have begun installing fire-containment bags on their planes to address the threat posed by overheating lithium ion batteries in mobile devices during flights. This article is four days old. I believe more restrictions have come out since then, at least in the USA. I still have my 'flip phone' and it's never caught fire :-)

This isn't just about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Just about anything using a Lithium Ion or other high-capacity battery has the potential to overheat and/or catch fire. So while any devices specifically banned in the US and many other countries will hopefully be kept off aircraft, the need for these bags still exists, and I applaud the airlines for taking action.

The Galaxy Note has now been banned by the Feds on commercial airlines.
