EGPWS screams TERRAIN - TERRAIN - PULL UP!
This is an example when an airport is not in the EGPWS database. The computer does not know that you are landing at an airport. So it thinks you are flying low in relation to the terrain and starts yelling with the mode 2 GPWS "Terrain Terrain". Quite annoying, but interesting to watch. The landing and approach was perfectly safe with regard to terrain clearance, weather and runway length. Happy Landings, Guido (www.youtube.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Another good one, thanks Guido. Sounds like the C130s going over the ridges when dropping retardant on the Rim Fire by Yosemite.
We get the C-130 military exercises here in the Pennines in the UK on lat 54N and boy oh boy.. you should them at about 100 feet just above the trees flying down into the valeys then up over the ridges. They do these exercises in pairs formations. They are so quiet.
A C130? Quiet???? You are either being vary sarcastic old man or need to find your glasses old man.LOL
Honest Wayne...I am not kidding you. The newer ones..you just cannot hear them coming. Now it is true my hearing is not what it was...but boy...these are stealthy.
I'd tend to look at your hearing. LOL. LRAFB at Jacksonville AR is primary training for them now with all models available, and their training flights come right over our whole valley up hear at what sometimes seems treetop level. While I am sure the noise has been significantly reduced over the years, you can definitely hear them approaching and going away.LOL
I have to side with Roland. Compare a J model Herc to a legacy one, there is a quite a difference. They used to sneak up to our airport quite often. Granted its like comparing a shotgun to an artillery piece.
Shotgun is still noisy. Mostly J's at LRAFB now with a few of the legacies to keep everybody honest. When they are literally at treetop level coming in on and over your house, there is no sneaking.LOL
Spent a full summer re-roofing my house about 6 or 7 years ago. Back then the budgets were healthy and the USAF and RAF had exercises right over. The RAF trainers were OK..I waved and the back seat guy waved back...no problem. The USAF F-15s and the RAF Tornados chasing each other were an entirely different experience. I knew those days were ending when they changed into desert livery...like a mortuary around these days. No fun at all.
Whole summer to re-roof your house? You live in Windsor Castle?
J's probably quieter than the legacies but 2 just came over very low, probably right at a grand and got me out of bed this morning.
