GA pilots chafe at surprise searches
4th-amendment concerns at heart of as law enforcement steps up searches of private airplanes, apparently at the behest of the federal government. (www.toledoblade.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
A lot of this is recycled news from other publications that I've read already, but I'm glad that another news source has taken notice of this. This has been pretty ridiculous.
Thank Buba Bush for the stupid Patriot act which law enforcement throughout the USA is now claiming gives them the right to search anyone, anywhere at any time for any reason.
Repeal the Patriot Act, just get rid of it and reaffirm the 4th amendment.
The 4th amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. In other words your local county mounty can't just make up some silly excuse to go after you.

I guess that agencies involved with counter terrorism activities are SAME all over. And they ALL try to offer same argument for their irrational conduct, be it out side or in side the courts. " In the name of national and internal security" .
I wonder if some agency would take action through class action litigation at appropriate judicial level !
BUT , it must be emphasised that this is an absolutely correct incident for such a demand or for seeking a judicial remedy !

Hey, it gets the Local Boys out of the Donut Shop . . .
Yeah, but the Donut shop will lose sales and go out of business...
This is ridiculous, last summer landed in Reykjavik and customs didn't bother to check anything! I actually had to ask them nicely to stamp my passport for good memories LOL, coming back home via Burlington Vermont we were met by CBP, these guys treated us like criminals, very bad experience. Whoever is in charge up there needs to be thrown into 777 engine at full power!
I can understand your pain and anguish ! and agree with you.
But a caveat. Without meaning to defend avoidable harassment, one has to consider local circumstances prevailing at a particular time. Long ago, in peaceful times, the security checks at ALL Indian airports were simple. BUT at Jammu, which is very close to Indo-Pak border it was very stringent ! Even in good old days !
And see what is the scene now, almost every where !
