Allegiant Air announced on Monday that it would start charging passengers $35 for carry-on luggage by Wednesday. (www.huffingtonpost.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
With the increase in jet fuel cost, this doesn't surprise me. This is the only airline that offers a round trip to LAX for $150.00 from Western Colorado. You can't even fly to Denver for that price on the major airlines commuters. Allegiant has to generate enough revenue to keep flying.
The latest reports now, is saying $45.00 .. ... All they will do is GROUND theirselves ... This is ridculous .. Nickle and dime for what should come as part of buying the ticket ... CUSTOMER SERVICE !!
I don't fault them for this at all, but $35 is close to some of their one-way fares on the east coast. It'll just about double the cost of the trip.
Their website says carry-on checked at the gate is 35.00. If it is over weight or over sized additional fees may apply and they have a chart for those fees too. Not great but they are publishing the information.
If airlines need to cover the cost, just put it in the ticket price and let the public know you don't charge bag fees. Seems there's too many lawyers and not enough marketing experts, in the airlines nowadays.
I can't wait for the guy that shows up with a "man bag". If the women can carry a purse for free, why can't I carry this very manly purse?
The last Delta flight I was on, actually both ways from ATL - SEA - ATL; the gate agent said that only about half the carry-on's would be allowed since the bins would fill up and the rest would have to be gate checked; however, I don't remember if they charged to check those bags that would have been carried on but yeah, people are starting to haul a lot of extra stuff on the plane recently. Personally, I just check mine, pay $25 and go about my business - certainly easier than arguing about it ;-)
