NTSB Releases Preliminary Report of PC-12 Crash in SD Last Month

uh ..... Witnesses reported that the pilot and a passenger worked for three hours to remove the snow and ice from the airplane before the accident flight.
Condolences to the family and friends of those who died, and the for the few that lived I can’t imagine the feeling of being one of the only ones to survive.
RIP to those killed....this sounds like a classic case of pilot/flight crew error.

Unknown pilot qualifications. Horrid weather conditions. Not sure where they HAD to be. Letting the aircraft slow to 80kts after liftoff may not have kept it in the air even without airframe contamination. Add 15% to normal takeoff and climb speeds and all goes well. So sorry to hear. RIP
Airframe icing does not, in and of itself, cause an aircraft to crash on takeoff. How a pilot mitigates it, or doesn’t, does.
