Merger means new look for almost 700 aircraft
It will take a lot of paint to get all of those planes to look alike — from 65 to 180 gallons of paint per plane, depending on the aircraft's size. The companies declined to say how much the paint jobs cost. United officials expect to repaint the entirefleet of nearly 700 planes by the end of 2012. That means some planes still might have their older paint jobs after the two carriers start flying as one under a single federal operating permit, which could happen by late next year. Ugh, that cheesy 90s gold look will spread, raffle drum and all. :(
I love the imaginative livery they are going with! A toddler could have designed the new United!
Lame. in a word.... :(
Awful paint scheme. They should keep the newest United scheme instead. Definitely lame.

Well, Tom Sawyer painted his project white. A simple paint scheme that was probably the lowest cost option. Budgets for decorations should be low at this phase of the current business cycle. One point made is that "some will only need a name change". That refers to the CO fleet, I would think. Yes, the last United scheme was very pleasing, but would have probably cost a lot more for the combined fleet. Has anyone done a study on which planes stay and which are dropped from the fleet? I would bet that there are more ex-CO and less ex-UA, hence requiring fewer total repaints.
