Feds give Google OK to test Project Wing drone deliveries
The US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has been very cautious about drone testing in the US so far, but that's about to change. The FAA has granted Google permission to test its Project Wing delivery services below 400 feet at six sanctioned test sites, according to the White House. The flights will be part of a new push by the US National Science Foundation, which is spending over $35 million on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) research and testing over the next five years. Noise pollution. Air pollution. Water pollution. Drone pollution? This is progress, I suppose, and everything in life has a price, progress included. So why do I keep thinking 'there goes the neighborhooh'?
I'm thinking that for these drones to have any real load carrying capacity they are not going to be the size of the ones we see spying with a 2 ounce camera.
There is already a stampede of delivery trucks, vans, and cars plying the neighborhood what will it be like when each parcel contributes its weed whacker din to the mix?
