Ed Force One Badly Damaged on the Ground in Chile
Ed Force One was this morning tethered to a tow truck to be taken for refueling prior to flying over the Andes to Cordoba for the next show. On moving the steering pin that is part of the mechanism that connects the ground tug to the aircraft seemingly fell out. On making a turn the aircraft had no steering and collided with the ground tug badly damaging the undercarriage, two of the aircraft's engines and injuring two ground tug operators, both of whom have been taken to hospital. I'm showing my ignorance here, but aren't there procedures that require someone to be in control of a massive rolling aircraft?
Someone trashed some metal.
Very clever. Haha
Even if the towed aircraft became detached, how can ONE ground tug damage BOTH engines (one on either side). ???
Shown are engines 1 and 2. Ground to cockpit communications established? Towing or pushing? Speed may have been a factor as well
unless it is BOTH engines on one side (#1 and #2 on 747). the way pictures are taken it seemed there was a LEFT / RIGHT going on
Did the ground handlers work for Swissport???
