Aviation-Themed Steakhouse Opens Near Chicago
Let's face it, you've done the hundred-dollar hamburger thing more times than you can count. If you're in the Chicago area it's time to check out PM Prime, a new steakhouse that pilots will love for the food and the incredible aviation-themed decor. Used to be 91st Bomb Group at the end of one of the runways in MEM. Had the Memphis Belle outside. Seems like it was off of Winchester Road. Don't know if it's still there or not. Steak and atmosphere was excellent.
Preacher...You living in Arkansas..Have you ever eaten at The Parachute Inn? It is in Walnut Ridge. Located by Walnut Ridge Regional. The Restaurant is a 737-200...
It has been several years since I been over in that part of the country, the last time around 02/03 but I never knew there was anything like that over there. I'll have to check that out here in the next few weeks. It's about 100 miles of easy driving so that would be a good thing to make a day out of.
I cannot believe as much flyover as I have done that I have not been into or noticed that Airport before. That must be and old military field to be configured out like that. I looked at the Google map here on FA. Like a lot of the smaller fields around, somebody is doing some salvage/recycle over there. There are a couple of 4 engine types at the North end, and a wing laying out on the ground as well as other assorted parts. You can clearly see that 737 fuselage on the ground there.
Back in the day it was a Army/Marine pilot training facility. It is a nice place...it has 3 landing spots if I remember correctly..longest prox 6000ft. When I went there I had the fried catfish and fried peach pie...it was to die for. I made a unscheduled stop in your beautiful state a few weeks back..at South Arkansas Regional (Goodwin Field) Nice facility....
That is a nice Little Airport. South Arkansas has started to come into it's own. They got regional service in there a couple years back, Eagle I think.
The 91st Bomb Group restaurant must be very long gone. I read an article from someone who said he ate there back in 1984. He joined the Army, and it was closed by time he got back. I've been in the area since 2000 and never heard of it. There was a restaurant like the 94th Aero Squadron that used to be in St. Louis, that was located at Nashville. But, that is gone too, along with St. Louis' and Memphis' restaurants. Last time I was in Miami and Cleveland, their versions were there. And, The Proud Bird in L.A. has gotten a reprieve from closing from the airport authority for a year or two.
Best I remember it sat up at the North End of one of the 18's, Chalet/Castle looking thing
And I guess it's been about 1984 since I was in there
