Qantas flight attendant: Confessions from the first-class galley
Flying around the globe non-stop to exotic destinations, swanning about in five-star hotels, lazing around fancy hotel pools and even tabletop dancing with “identities”; flight attendants appear to have an enviable lifestyle. (www.smh.com.au) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
I have a question for you then, what was your position at Qantas and why did they make you redundant? I must remind you that major airlines such as Qantas get VERY good deals with these hotels.
It's not just the cost of flight attendants in these hotels, it's the cost of all the other ground staff such as maintenance crew and airport staff. Qantas is competing in an unfair international environment. They have to pay everyone a lot more for the same stuff because of Australian regulations. They aren't state sponsored like Singapore airlines or Emirates. Essentially everyone is against Qantas right now, the unions, the consumers, the other airlines and their government backing, and the Australian governments (understandable) refusal to help out.

for example ANZ cut cost across the Tasman NZAA/YSSY or NZAA/YBBN they use to change crew and stay a day and come back the next day. Now they do the complete return trip in one day which makes sense and cuts costs or NZAA/NFFN they return with the same aircraft they flew out on different flight numbers but they still get paid for there eight hour job. So why qantas cannot do this across the Tasman it's got me beat
