Old taildraggers

I recently saw this beautiful old Cessna at GMU and it got me wondering... What are the big differences in ratings for a pilot to fly a tricycle style landing gear airplane vs a tail dragger? (flightaware.com) Más...

Philip, the only real difference between tricycle and conventional, (tail dragger), gear airplane requirements FAA wise is the requirement that all landings for currency consideration to carry passengers must be to a full stop. Tricycle can suffice with touch and go.

The real difference operationally is training and experience in tail draggers. The misuse of controls, particularly the rudder, in a trike on a crosswind day might just be embarrassment, in a tail dragger you might wind up in the weeds or a ground loop, or both. The proper use of ailerons and elevator in crosswind taxiing is more critical as well.

The C195 is a true pilots airplane to operate safely and the Stagger wing Beech was a B@%&h.
