It is too bad for Canadian aviation , they had give 51% away could be worse to see the whole program go down!
I'm mixed on the AB acquisition but truth be told, this was the fault of Bombardier. Their management of the program is a case history of why a family shouldn't control a conglomerate. The reality is AB probably saved the program, whether they shelve it, expand it, or leave it as be. At least we will still see the C-Series fly for the foreseeable future and I'm thankful for that! I will, however, never look at Boeing the same way again.
It looks for all the world like an Airbus. If truth be told it has probably saved the C-series and all the jobs and infrastructure that goes with it, while giving Airbus a modern 100-seater which they didn't have. Bombardier didn't have many sales locked in. This will open up the whole world to them and especially in the SE-Asia and Oceania regions. I see it as a win-win for both Bombardier and Airbus.
Its a sad day for the Canadian aviation industry and Canada. Years of hard work and investments to create the most advanced single aisle jet on the market only to have to give it given away to Airbus for $1 thanks to Trump's threat of 300% tariffs. Adding salt to the wounds is the construction of a FAL in Alabama (paid for by Bombardier!). No doubt when it breaks ground Trump will be there to take credit for all the "stolen" jobs he is bringing back to America. But for the fact that some jobs will remain in Mirabel for the foreseeable future - I would have preferred to see the program cancelled instead of what happened. With Airbus owning the program I doubt we will see -500 -700 etc stretches of the jet - it will never reach full potential
Hard for Trump to take credit for something that was already planned and there to begin with, especially with seeing that the factory down there already was pushing out the A320 series before he even took office. They'll laugh him out of there so fast and remind him that they told him to go pound sand after getting around his ridiculous tariffs.
Embraer is going to do the same with him as well, as they got around his steel/aluminum tariffs against Brazil. They'll tell him to stuff it more than Canada and Europe will.

Trump will take credit. The fact is the 300%+ tariff's imposed by his Sec. of Commerce - Wilbur Ross (since shot down) forced Bombardier to "partner" with Airbus, i.e. give away the entire CSeries program to Airbus for $1 and to build a FAL in Alabama (paid for by Bombardier?) I do agree with your last statement - with those tariffs they (USA) win and We (Canada) lose . I expect Trump will next target the Canadian Auto sector for destruction. When you are a bully TEN times the size of your nearest neighbor you can do these things
