Interfering with evacuation of an aircraft should be a federal crime, like smoking in a lavatory. Why not lock overhead bins during takeoff and landing-better yet during the entire flight.
Reports this morning are the engine parts were found 2920ft down the runway near the UPS building.
An update on this can be read at http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-ohare-plane-fire-engine-disk-failed-20161029-story.html. Ditto to the comment to that article by concernedcitizen2013, "A tip of the hat to the American Airlines flight crew who can be seen in the videos running back to the danger to assist passengers."
According to this story, one piece of the turbine disk was found in a UPS warehouse (that luckily was not operating during the day) over 1/2-mile away, after penetrating the roof of that building and landing inside, still hot.
The passengers and crew aboard this aircraft were very lucky.

Somehow they need to make it a felony for passengers to open an overhead compartment and/ or attempt to retrieve belongings during an aircraft emergency evacuation
Yeah, they do. It should be guaranteed prison time for the first offence!!!
WAS NOT GOING TO BE A REPEAT OF american flight 191 DC10 losing a engine in 1979 lucky that show how American maintain there aircraft treat them like crap
