The order of operation must now be aviate, navigate, communicate, then selfie. Terrible. A tragedy perfectly avoidable.
Here come the regs.
Does this make an argument for or against gopros on the flight deck?
It's truly amazing how many bad decisions the pilot made on his previous flights. He was rushing engine run-ups while taxiing, loading/unloading passengers with the engine running, taking off at night with prevailing IMC, performing negative G maneuvers in the pattern to impress his passengers, checking his phone/taking pictures on downwind, base, final and even the roundout, all while not IFR or night current.
The articles are all focused on the selfies, but really the story should be about a pilot who was breaking every rule and it finally caught up to him.
