Watch this AV-8B Harrier land without a nosegear
... with this one weird trick (just kidding! (sort-of)) Video of an AV-8B harrier landing on the amphibious assault ship USS Batan with a misbehaving nose gear. Oh, the luxuries of VTOL. (www.youtube.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Amazing, yes, but I have to ask: The stool was created specifically for this purpose? Does that mean faulty nose gear is common on these things?
This stools was designed to be used when landing gear requires maintenance.
It may be part of the "hope for the best, plan for the worst" mindset.
While they refer to it as a stool, methinks 'chin rest' a better moniker. 8-)

Amazing
My son served with VMA-231 in Cherry Point NC from 2010-2012 servicing the Harrier "jump jet" and they lovingly called them the "Scarier" jets due to their constant mechanical failures.
We had them in Belize - used them to scare the Guatemalan troops massing on the border.
