Hellooooo maintenance. Somebody leave a (several) screw loose on that last inspection? Imho the only way to lose that panel with proper hardware attachment is with the loss of the wing. Not to mention the appearance of something spewing from an actuator or line at the mid span aft point of the hole. Oh well, if we can lose a triple 7, I'm done with perfection in aviation in my lifetime. And they still send the food editor out for the aviation stories. That mean the facts will vary!
Interesting. One article (The Guardian) says it was towed to the gate and the other says it taxied. Sounds like folks at The Guardian love sensationalism above all accurate reporting. It wasn't "forced" to land in Georgia. It was SUPPOSED to land there. Morons.
I think the important thing to get out of this article is that a massive wing panel fell off of airliner while it was flying. Taxied, towed, whatever.
The guardian used AP out of Orlando as the source. Sad.....
Never a good thing when planes start spitting out parts. Need to go back to the maintenance log and see what went wrong. Planes rarely have failures without a human involved (bird strikes excluded)
CNN made a big deal out of the too,,,emphasis on "highly unusual" quote from Delta....With the events of the week, I understand....
