I doubt you could get deregulation passed today. The incumbents, the unions, etc, would pump righteous money to the pols and that would be the end of it. Decades of public school indoctrination and curriculum paced slow enough that the third-dumbest-kid in the class can make it have left the vast majority of the country without critical thinking skills and a distinct lack of awareness of how capitalism works.
The airlines have to make a profit(well maybe not) so tickets have to be more than they have been. We have the luxury of shopping via the Internet. It's still pretty cheap unless you fall for the I'm special gimmicks or instead of traveling you move!

Pay pilots more, raise ticket prices, less people fly, airline doesn't make money, pilots get laid off. Sounds like a good idea Phil...
