Photos: First United Airlines CRJ-550 Spotted In Chicago
United Airlines has begun testing its first re-configured Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft into the new CRJ550 configuration, which features an all-new premium seating cabin with 10 First Class seats. This aircraft model will be the first triple-class 50 seat aircraft in the world, which will feature a new type certificate based on the CRJ700. (airwaysmag.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
So the 550 is nothing more than an interior reconfig? Why a new type rating?
“This aircraft model will be the first triple-class 50 seat aircraft in the world, which will feature a new type certificate based on the CRJ700.”
News to me.... Working very closely with the plane and have heard nothing about that... We have the same pilots flying the same plane... 1/2 of the planes will be the Same Serial Number with a Different Tail Number...
To clarify my comment, aside from the quote I posted above, I thought they were building new aircraft but I suppose it is just a interior reconfig.
With 100% authority..... The only thing that is changing on these a/c is the Interior and the Tail Number... The Tail number change is to put the A/C Tail Number and Serial Number in order, and believe me from a maintenance prospective it is very good thing... I also noted today that CRJ-550 is plastered onto the Gear doors and fuselage... There is no shame from the company on that one... A Blind man couldn't miss it.
Just a note... I did get the opportunity to step on the plane today, and it most certainly looks very very nice.... The new interior and paint job really stands out and much more room in the seats....
Why not call it what it is. It is CRJ700 Type3. CRJ 700 for the model. Call it type three because of the three seating sections. First, Premium Economy and Economy. It sounds more progressive. CRJ550 sounds like an older model when they have significantly improved the options for this aircraft.
