Who is at fault here? The passenger, the employee or the bear?
This would've been much better had it been a Canadian airport, eh?
TSA at their finest - good thing it wasn't a "bear hand grenade."
Why would anyone be carrying bear spray onto a commercial airline flight?
You'd be surprised what can be found in checked bags! I know a thing or two because I've seen a thing or two (with apologies to that Farmers Insurance TV commercial guy.....)
Checked luggage, sure. All sorts of stuff goes there. But carry-on? A nail file or a pair of scissors, I could understand overlooking, but how do you accidentally carry something like bear spray?
"Oh, yeah, I run into bears all the time in SLC. Gotta be prepared."

Accidentally, out of ignorance of TSA/airline policy, or simply reluctant to part with the can after spending so much money on it. You can have it shipped but that's expensive too as I believe it's HAZMAT.
because not everyone takes the station wagon on vacation?
