C130J totaled by slip maneuver gone wrong
An Air Force C130J went inverted during a "sideslip" maneuver. "The aircraft exceeded the targeted angle of sideslip until it departed controlled flight and momentarily inverted before being recovered after losing approximately 5,000 feet of altitude," according to a statement from Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. I was a gunner on an older model AC130 years ago. If the full crew was onboard for this event I'm surprised no men were injured. Gunners are moving around in the back, not belted in, as are tools and gear. Maybe the G-forces pinned everything down. Lucky to get this thing level again and back to Eglin.
