B737 plane forced to return to Calgary airport after mechanical problems
A Boeing 737 returned to the Calgary airport Wednesday evening after birds struck one of its engines but there were no injuries among 129 passengers and five crew members, the airline says. The Canadian North plane left the airport at 5:43 p.m. on its way to a community near the oilsands when two large birds struck the engine on the left side of the place, spokeman Kelly Lewis said. That is not that bad and still not news worthy.... As a Maintenance Controller I had one to where the bird went completely through Radome, Radar Unit, then penetrated the Pressure bulkhead and really did not stop there... Wind blowing into the cabin blew bird feathers into the cockpit and were coming up from around the rudder pedals.... UGH.. Bird Feathers were all over the cockpit... They declared and emergency and returned to the field... Took 6 weeks to get the plane fixed.... When I look at that little dent in the engine cowl, that is a 3 to 4 hour fix... No big deal at all.
Why is this even news?
Besides... This is not really a mechanical... The bird caused the problems. Things like this happen all the time.. .Not news worthy.
