United and US Airways Said to Be in Merger Talks
5:20 p.m. | Updated The UAL Corporation, the parent of United Airlines, and US Airways are in talks to merge, in a potential deal that would create one of the world’s largest airlines, people briefed on the matter told DealBook on Wednesday. UAL/US have been the least customer aware airlines for more than 20 years and they've lost money for most of those years. If Continental even thinks of merging with them, they will lose the customer awareness that they presently have.
That's funny, Gregg. Reminds me of talks about Yahoo and Microsoft teaming up on search to beat Google. Two losers join forces to beat the winner...? 0+0=2 ?
LOL. Where's the sense in that? The two worst carriers in the country are going to merge to produce what? The largest, worst airline in the country? I still don't understand how UA and US stay in business.
Thank Goodness for small favors leave Continental out of the mix they are better off !
I agree db. Alaska & Continental had a great thing going. Their fleet compliments each other and the access to the west coast was a bonus. Only time will tell what could happen. I'd hate to think that current circumstances might force CO & AA might get married. (Shudders) lol
It was only 6 months ago that Alaska and Continental broke up their partnership. Alaska was a GREAT addition to the Continental system due to their extensive west coast coverage, where Continental really lacks.
Let UA & US merge.... 2 awful airlines.
I still think Continental & Alaska should merge. Boy, am I dreaming. lol
