Lufthansa orders 59 Boeing 777-9X and Airbus A350-900 aircraft
Lufthansa’s supervisory board has approved the purchase of 59 Boeing and Airbus aircraft, worth USD$19 billion at list prices, the German airline said on Thursday Sept. 19. It said the order comprised 34 Boeing 777-9X and 25 Airbus A350-900s, with the first of these new aircraft to be delivered in 2016. (airguideonline.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
$19 million for 59 new airliners. Think I will buy a few myself.
$19 billion with a b, not million.
I dont get it, our article says 19 billion ? but the one below by Jake 19 million !!
As per Boeing site, list price of a single 777-300ER is 300 odd million. Don't see any way they could get 34 planes for 19 million :D.
Does anyone know why Lufthansa has refused to order any 787 series aircraft.
From the article they wanted to replace the A340-300 and B747-400. I think capacity wise the A350-900 is similar to A340 with around 310 passengers and proposed B777-9X might be closer to the B747-400 in terms of seating. I think the only 787 that would come close to these seating requirements would be the new 787-10 and perhaps they did want to wait for the new stretch variant that does not have many orders yet. Of course we will never know the details but this is what we can guess.
