Plane crashes into 2 houses in East Haven
At least two homes have been damaged from a plane crash in East Haven, authorities said. The town's mayor said three are missing after, two `might have been young children.' The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m.on or near Charter Oak Ave. That is north of Tweed-New Haven Airport, along the approach for a runway. An FAA official told the Associated Press that the multi-engine plane had departed Teterboro, New Jersey, and crashed while approaching Tweed.… (www.ctpost.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Heartbreaking. Horribly sad... Does Mark Duell know the pilot? Looks like he has a few pictures posted of the aircraft. Track looks like he's on the ILS 2 flying from the southwest into HVN, but the house is north of the field. Must have gone missed. Witnesses seem to say the aircraft wasn't under power, but to lose two engines on climb out from a missed approach would seem unlikely. Even if down to just one, those dash 5s make a lot of noise. Although, after a loss of one, reaching minimum controllable airspeed, he might have pulled back on the other and just couldn't get it back under control with the altitude he had left. Very sad...
Looking at the data it doesn't look like he ever started climbing (again)after an approach. The final two data entries start at 4,900ft and for Vertical Speed they were 1500fpm then 1680fpm descending. That makes me think something along the lines of the pilot became incapacitated m aybe and the plane nosed over with nobody to recover in the right seat.
Think you're reading it backwards. Last altitude readout was 700 ft. with a decent rate of 420 ft.
I expect the airplane was a -10 conversion Scott. He flight planned it at 300 to 310, a -5 would be 270 to 280 I think. I have flown a few hours in a -10 and I liked the airplane. Bit disconcerting on the first couple of landings though, seems like your butt is gonna drag ground. Sad indeed for what sounded like another good guy in another good airplane.
They were on the ILS runnway 2, circle to land 20. Maybe a stall spin. Weather was IFR but not that bad. Airport manager has no clue.
During the press conference, the airport manager said the plane performed a go around and was on approach on line with the runway.
