The FAA has released the list of ATC control towers they plan to close as part of the steps it is taking due to the federal government sequestration. Of the 238 towers that will close on April 7... (www.thefloridanewsjournal.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Most of them shouldn't have been open in the first place. It's not a safety issue, just a pride and political one. The tower at PVW was closed when Reagan fired the controllers, and has never been missed. One on the list is KHOB. I've been by that airport many times and flown into it a few, and have never seen traffic levels that justified a tower. If the cities want a tower, they can pay for one.
Exactly, you want it , pay for it.
I was at PVW when it closed. The FAA spent some $ later in the 80s refurbishing it with plans of reopening, but never did.
Very interesting that as a direct slap at general aviation they picked "our" airports at Fredrick, MD, and Oshkosh, WI. Those support, respectively, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Interesting comment! That tower at Oshgosh is for one week a year, the busiest tower in the U.S.A.....Can't say the same for a bunch of others , however. KPWK comes to mind.
Are you from Chicago area or just fly to there? Have you ever been to c56 out south? It is awesome. My brother lives there. It is probably the most georgeous GA terminal I have ever seen. Is owned by Jim Bult privately but open to the public.
