The suspended route is to Tarta, Estonia. Tarta is located about 40 miles west of the Estonia-Russia border. GPS interference has become more common in the area recently.

It's actually Tartu, as the article correctly says, not Tarta. And it's about 40km, not 40 miles. Otherwise, all correct.

Thank you for the correction. yes, 40 kilometers from the border. (I have not had the pleasure of visiting Estonia)
Perhaps pilots should bring along paper maps and a compass ? =D

Tartu does have a ILS/LOC 26 approach, so strange that they can’t use it now.

Stop the spoofing and jamming at its source via the United Nations, etc. If that's not possible, jam the buggers back!

Are their birds no longer equipped with INS?

I doubt it... But they may have IRS installed. That will allow them to navigate pretty close to the GPS.

This article may have an explanation as to why GPS systems are interrupted in the eastern and northern most parts of Europe bordering Russia

Sad deal they may have to go back and use the old way of navigating

That's why all large commercial aircraft have inertial navigation systems (inertial reference systems) as a fallback to GPS.

And the worst-case scenario is getting radar vectors from ATC...

The Term is IRS, as you noted (Inertial Reference System) (IRS). The "inertial navigation systems" is older technology and no longer being used since IRS took over. IRS is more accurate and less expensive!
