Think its over the top as is there evidence of other ATR engine problems? Too bad for the airlines involved as it sounds like third world people being involved with something they know nothing about. The US has had the same problem with the politicians sticking there nose in just for the copy in the paper.

It probably is over the top. ATR didn't build the engines. Plane was fairly new and just thru maintenance a few days ago. sad as it is, a flame out or lost engine of some type is not an unusual happening, and if they shut down the good engine by mistake, they wouldn't be the first ones to do that either.

Just read a news report that said the black box info revealed the left engine did not flame out...at the 37 second mark the left engine went to idle and for whatever reason the right engine was shut down and a restart was attempted.

Box is saying that right engine feathered but didn't quit and that left was shut off manually, the investigators think by mistake

Now come reports that the Pilots shut off the operating engine...not the defective one....

That's the ame scenario as British Midland 92 in 1989.

Now Taiwan's Civil Aviation Authority has ordered Air Asia to re-test its aircrews operating the ATR72s.
