Qantas Experiments With Neighbour-Free Seating On International Services
Qantas is expanding its Neighbor Free seating option to international flights, allowing passengers to pay a fee to block the seat next to them for a more comfortable journey. Prices range from $45 to $225 depending on the flight length. This cost can be cheaper than buying an extra ticket or upgrading. No -not at all. They are not offering 'not' to sell a seat, only to put an unsold seat next to 'you' (instead of someone else).

I wonder having sold the empty seat to a revenue passenger and then :30 prior to departure, a few pax show up and say I need to go on that flight. The airline likely would refund your cheaper, paid for empty seat and stick a higher fare pax in it. Just sayin’.
Maybe, but I’ll bet the airlines jam standby’s, seat sales any warm body they can find and it will likely trickle down to short flights as well. But we'll see?
