One would think if a plane needed to sit on the tarmac for two hours because of weather, maybe it shouldn't be taking off anyway. Forget about getting a fine because passengers were inconvenienced by you possible saving their lives... psh
It isn't quite that simple. The problems begin when aircraft back up waiting to takeoff, while others are still landing. Eventually you end up with a situation with more aircraft on the ground than available gates.
The new fines now encourage airlines to simply shut down operations than risk any chance of a delay. Case in point, one of the first storms of the season, Delta cancelled all flights in and out of MSP, and the airport completely closed for two days. It was an unprecedented shutdown.

Every law or regulation imposed by our Federal Government results in unintended consequences that actually end up hurting the very people the law was intended to help. Bravo!
