Study: How Devalued Have American Airlines AAdvantage Miles Become?
The most recent change within the AAdvantage program has been the adoption of the so-called “Dynamic Award Pricing” which makes award pricing much more variable based on demand, open seats, time of year, destination, etc. The airline is essentially aligning award pricing (largely) with cash pricing. The question is, does dynamic pricing help or hinder travelers like me who want to make the most of my miles? Is this simply a further devaluation of the once-mighty AAdvantage program? the miles were at one time, something flyers(mostly business people) actually worked to earn..i remember once there was a prometon for double miles on each leg of a trip, and all the aadvantage flyers were juts doing hops back and forth to dfw to gain miles..i also remember when the aadvantage program began in the early 80's, as a marketing idea promoted bay a senior vp at American,mr plaskett..i guess he had no idea that the program would spread to other airlines who followed suit with their own programs, and americans would grow from plain old aadvantage to gold, platinum, and now "dynamic" flying!by the way, the miles are great if you can get a set on a flight when you want or need it..its pretty much gone to every other wednesday when the moon is full and the birds are not flying!!the price of your ticket should not determine how many miles you get nor if you get an upgrade..the old system worked much better....
It WAS a great idea in the long and distant past ha ha ha, but now ? NO it's been eaten away at so much that it's hardly worth ALL the efforts to even apply for a membership anymore with ANY Airline.
