Eurofighter intends to pitch its Typhoon aircraft to replace the Royal Canadian Air Force’s fleet of Boeing CF-18A/B Hornet fighters. (www.flightglobal.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
When will the option for a pilotless fighter option become a reality? Started with recon (ie: drones), next IMHO will be cargo then fighters? Thoughts? The boys with toys (ie military) will not easily let go of their role. Surely we must be turning a corner in going pilotless for all types of aviation/military needs.
Does the option exist to purchase from brokers/lease agents such as found in the airline world (ex: GECAS)? Trainers aside, are the needs and requirements (perceived or true as identified by the "boys with toys" (ie: military)) so unique that the purchaser has to go directly to the manufacturer? If the drag along benefits of using local (ie: country of purchase companies to fulfill some degree of contribution in assembly) are backed out, any idea how much cheaper (in %) the aircraft would be? I refuse to believe that these nice to have and political thrown ins are free. Thoughts?
In terms of 4.5 gen aircraft the ranking would be #3 grifen ng, #2 Rafale, #1 Typhoon/Eurofighter
The best comparison would be F5, F18, F15
Grifen single engine lowest weight/payload/range
Rafaletwin engine good payload, good range
typhoon twin, good loadout, fantastic range
Look up Rafale vs F22 the guy pushes the Raptor around like a border collie does sheep.
The Typhoon is even better.

Rafael is the only way to go. Outperform any 4th generation Boeing aircraft, Two engines for Artic patrols. I believe they have already said assembly would be in Canada.
How does it stack up against the Typhoon?
The Typhoon is a twin with super-cruise so you don't burn-up your fuel too quickly by using re-heat. Does the Rafael have super-cruise? It's a real mission efficient to conserve fuel and still obtain a good mach number.
