Two pilots killed in Russian strategic bomber crash
Two pilots were killed when a strategic bomber with seven people on board crashed in far eastern Russia (news.yahoo.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Russian mentality is interesting: Brilliant when necessary, pragmatic 'good enough' rest of the time.
Right, but I'm still thinking that flying a TU-95 half-way round the world is more of a sentence than a job.
Once again the media gets it wrong on stories relating to aviation, this time referring to the TU-95 as a "Jet"... Ho hum.
Could be worse, they could have called it a 'hybrid', given that turboprop aircraft such as TU95 use turbine engines, technically a 'jet' or are they piston engines? Can never tell with these relics!
How can you say that about the Texan, wonderful sound coming from propeller tips ablaze breaking Mach 1 specially when diving. Another beautiful sound is given by most R-2800 driven planes i.e DC-6, CV440 (both muffled by the exhaust pipe). I can´t wait to go to Canada and get on board Buuffalo's C-46s, same R2800 engines but totally different sound; they tell that afer a couple of take offs inside the cockpit enduring the unbearable roar plus all rivets vibrating out of this world you need to see an ear doctor. Can't wait. And I agree sith you that the P-51(and the P-38 too, mind you) pulled by the wonderful Allison engines emit a beautiful sound.
Oh I hear you, brother. I guess its the prop tips and not the engine. She has a pleasant rumble on taxi and groans a bit in cruise, but the sound of take off is just an awful sound to me. Its as irritating as a twin with props out of sync. It's a fingernails on the blackboard kind of thing. Nevertheless, the SNJ is a fine airplane and she'll do in a pinch.
A Stearman with 450hp R985 makes that same sort of sound sound (prop tips), but somehow it's a little more tolerable -- maybe because it climbs out a bit quicker and that sound is over sooner. It all makes me think of airshows I've been to, and by the way, if you get a chance to see the Brietling Jets, do it. They have a fantastic show. Saw their show at Sun N' Fun earlier this year, and a few weeks ago ran into the team again in Times Square NYC.
That means that the aircraft had a full load of bombs and that the damage on the ground was beyond description.
