AirAsia QZ8501: Officials say debris is missing plane

It is foolish to think that speculation won't run rampant as to a cause, as both MH370 and OZ8501 are in the same area. Besides the general area, the only thing that seems to be known is that requested a course change due to wx and were denied.
It does seem that Indonesia has been a lot more proactive in it's handling of this though rather than bungling around a couple of weeks as Malaysia did.

I looked at it. They are just wanting to know if it was standard issue. As far as I know, they were an option and it was the customer's choice.

Yeah, I think they are still offered but very seldom ordered. The 747 has them as standard because of fuel amount but with the formula change by the FAA approving the mfg's specs for that MLW, it has greatly changed. Most cases it is not even a necessary thing. Seems like there was a UAL had to do a burnoff over the channel last week but they were loaded heavy preparing to go across the pond. Can't remember the AC type but apparently it did not have the dump valves.
