I am not in the industry, but follow it closely, and am in the process of getting my PPL. I want some info from those on the inside on this.....I've been reading article after article about the looming pilot shortage, however all I see out there are a thousands of 20 something kids with CPLs, some with ATPLs, stuck in flying schools as instructors as they build their hours to try to get noticed amidst the thousands of other kids in the same boat. Something is not adding up here. I personally do not see a shortage. It's a matter of hiring, training, and helping them get the experience they need to be effective.

My best advice to you Jonathon is to work you way thru Perdue and go for a job with a manufacturer. If you got cash then get qualified as best as you can and head out East to build up your hours. Being pasrt of Boeing, Lockheed aor Grumand opens doors. Be persistant and find out what suits you. The military gives you an all round training that is almost imposible to match. Best start out withthe idea that you are blue collar. If you can hack the academic stuff you will progree. It is a long haul but in the end you get there.

And what do you think the captain should make?

If they won't hire you guys don't worry...head East and you will find a better life where the dollar is worth three times what it is in LA.

Grasp the nettle...up sticks and go.

Kent Lovelace was my favorite professor at UND. You can't beat learning while laughing your ass off. Why did they quote him throughout the article, only to talk about Riddle at the end? UND has a better, cheaper program with the same connections.

I really hope you regional guys stop working for nothing, it's so self-demeaning and it tells them how bad they can treat you. These regionals need to learn.

Also; American pay is respectful and US Airways pay is relatively bad. I'm fearing that the post-merger pay will shift toward the US Airways scale and become the new norm. Anyone on here know anything about that?
