Solar Impulse airplane is setting solar-powered flight record in Texas
Flight controllers said the plane was making such good time that Borschberg would have to fly in a holding pattern before landing at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (www.nbcnews.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Of course! I move from Ft Worth to a tiny West Texas town, and miss the 787 out of Meacham, now I miss this! I do get to see B1's out of Abilene on occasion though.
This is very cool. I guess the next step is airplane hybrids? Use Jet-A to get to altitude then cruise on solar - hopefully at a slightly faster speed than 30 kts :) Lets hope for fair winds for the rest of the Solar Impulse journey.
I was watching the stream from their website until I went to bed. Kinda sucked watching the holding pattern right over the airport. I'm hoping to fly up and see them when they get to St. Louis (which is a bit closer to me than Dallas).
Which flt/tail did you use?
Actually, I wondered about tracking it here, but didn't know what to track by either. They had a decent interface on the solar impulse website with streaming video, position on a moving map, and even some basic telemetry data.
