Hang-em from a Yard Arm by their Gonads. No respect for people like this.
Whatever sentence is handed down should include the requirment that these two individuals are forced to maintain the memorial & do all the upkeep needed for the next five years, at least, at their own expense.
I agree.
Hopefully the new stone (as well as the existing ones) will be made more vandal-proof. Anyone who is experienced in caring for monuments or cemeteries will tell you these things have been going on for years. The National Medal of Honor monument here in Indianapolis was defaced last week, probably by teenagers who are bored and can't find a job. But its design allowed the obscene markings to be quickly removed. Even Stonehenge had to be protected from spray-painting vandals, and souvenir seekers who chipped off parts of the stones. People can be amazingly shortsighted, especially when they're young.
Any thought to having them drag the new stone, from the quarry, back to the memorial (no rolling stock allowed)?
This is very disappointing from a city with great hospitality and friendly folks. Over the years, I have regularly worked with those in the Medical field, who responded during that mass-casualty incident. They still look back on the day with a heavy heart. It takes a couple of bad apples (who weren't even born when the crash happened) to deface a memorial -- but, it also takes a diligent Society to still reflect upon the event with respect to the victims, their families, the brave individuals who worked in a quickly-overwhelmed rescue/hospital system, and to the skilled flight crew who tried to save the dire situation.
