BREAKING: American Eagle to Lay Off 223 Pilots, Flight Attendants
The effects of American Airlines’ bankruptcy are starting to unfold… (airnation.net) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
NOW YOU"RE TALKING!!!! LOL
I see you got in while I was Wayne, and it sounds the same from both parts of the country. Hope that didn't confuse you RRKen?
Not in the least, and I thank you both for the timely response. Same kind of predicament at San Angelo, TX, AF town, and the possibility of no commercial air service (American Eagle) would not bode well with students comeing and going. Never did check to see if they had EAS.
Ken: for what it's worth, I don't think you will see a major service curtailment, as that has already been done throughout the year. As I said, I think you'll just see it operated by a contractor susch as Mesa or somebody. I just keep tossing that name out as their name is at the top of the rumor mill coming out of DFW.
RRKen, It's very confusing to alot of us little guys! The answers come from the top, but #1. $$,#2, sise of arpt,ie;population, runway length,etc.,#3, NOT letting the "other guy" get in or more flts. Thats just a few factors! Out here in Ca., Skywest flies an EMB120 IPL-LAX/LAX-IPL and no other commercial flts., just cargo. See IPL is next to El Centro Navy base and our heros can get a better connecting flt, out of LAX than SAN (which is closer). Most of the other Skywest flts. use the RJ's. That's just one example. Wayne, see if you can help out here,or anybody?
Can't help much because as you say, it comes from the top and they are seeing the numbers. Most Airports these days that can support commercial service have a long enough runway to handle an RJ. If they don't, they generally don't have enough pax to support it anyway. As far as our heroes at the Navy Base, if they don't support the Airport, Skywesst can't fly for nothing. As subsidies for small towns are being cut and fuel up $1+ over the last year, even the ATR's or the SAAB's can't fly for nothing.
Help me out here. The ATR's served smallish terminals, ones that did not rate an RJ or EMB. Has it become that uneconomical to serve them, despite the consumer traveliing on to another destination from the hub?
I guess the same could be asked of the RJ's. They server small to medium locals, and feed into hubs. So why would they want to rid themselves of them, unless those kind of passengers are no longer worthy of air service.
