Nice photo. I live in house in the background and am so lucky to see the grand old girl fly around Albion Park on semi regular basis.

I sure miss confined area landings. Great shot. I am curious as to what is in the pod on the right side of the bird is.

I live near DAI and GLobemasters from Wright-Patt regularly practice touch-n-goes at DAI. It's always so much fun when these guys come buzzing around.. punching a big hole in the air, especially compared to the usual consumer traffic (717's, CJR's, etc.).

That's not N436GM. It's N9854Z, known as "Ida Red" N4171A has the number 25 on the fuselage as well as a logo of a cat flipping the "bird " with two paws up by the leading edge of the Canopy. Ida is currently owned by David Prescott and 4171 by Tim Savage. Both are Atlantic schemes

It is edited, but not photoshopped. The AOA surprised me as well. It had to be very lightly loaded, but MD-11Fs (both FDX and UPS) rocket out like no other.

Written on 05/05/2024 by Scot Wattawa

Only ever flown it in a simulator(MS Flight sim X, X-plane 12). But yes Tom, lightly loaded, a MD-11 will take off like a rocket! One of my favorite planes. :)

I can't think about my past home airport CYXX without thinking about Conair. As kids, my friend and I would bike to the airport, crawl through the hog-wire fence, and spend a couple of hours wandering among – and sometimes, through – the lineup of off-duty aerial tankers. In those days they were Grumman Avengers and Trackers. Security consisted of someone driving up to see what we were up to, and then telling us to be careful.
