Heathrow closed after engine fire leads to an emergency landing
Looks like a British Airways A318 or A319. A witness says it was an A319 headed for Oslo. "Both runways are currently closed. All passengers & crew have been safely evacuated from an aircraft which is on the northern runway." "Air traffic controllers said the airport was closed to all arrivals following the incident, which happened just after 8 a.m. local time (3 a.m. ET)." Why is this showing up on current squawks? It's from 5.5 years ago.
I'm wondering the same thing. And it's not the only 5-year-old Squawk.
News is that both engines had the cowling clips left open, cowlings flew off both engines and damaged a fuel and hydraulic line on the right engine.
Rather serious accident. There is a picture of the incident: http://www.airliners.net/photo/British-Airways/Airbus-A319-131/2264340/&sid=6c8788e8d8a3367d27fdb8dd2c9ef26c
A GUESS THAT MX WORKED THE ACFT THE NIGHT BEFORE AND LEFT THE FAN COWLS UNLATCHED. THE ENGINES SIT LOW AND THE LATCHES ARE HARD TO SEE. THE CREW POSSIBLY MISSED THEM ON THE PREFLIGHT. POSSIBLY ONE OF THE COWLS WHEN IT BROKE FREE HIT A FUEL OR HYDRAULIC LINE CAUSING A FIRE.
spot on!
