London City first in UK to get remote air traffic control
London City is to become the first UK airport to replace its air traffic control tower with a remotely operated digital system. Two issues were not addressed in the article. The controllers lack depth perception using video monitors no matter how high the definition of the picture. No mention was made as to how the system compensates for weather, rain and fog. Undoubtedly some attention has been paid to these issues but no included in the article written for laymen.
So what happens if the system looses power?
