UPS Announces Order for 14 Boeing 747-8 Freighters
In positive news for the challenged 747-8F program, UPS has announced today an order for 14 Boeing 747-8 freighters. The agreement also includes purchasing options for 14 additional aircraft. (airwaysmag.com) Más...They also have options for another 14. Makes sense since they already have many '47's in their fleet. I think FedEx sold all the Tiger '47's (along with the DC-8's) to them but those were less well maintained and fuel guzzlers.
I wonder if Boeing will reverse their planned slow down of the -8 production of 0.5 aircraft per month?

I flew back from Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm on an ex-Flying Tigers 747 w/FedEx decals placed on it. We were delayed 12 hours from the original departure time due to mechanical issues. We were in formation waiting for the bus to take us to the airhead when we got word of the delay.. Could have cared less if it were a beat up DC-3 so long as we were leaving. Wish I had recorded that tail number as well as the C-141 that I flew on into country.
Wonderful news for an amazing aircraft!
I wish they could make the passenger version a twin to keep it competitive, just for the sheer beauty of the airframe. Nothing looks like the Queen of the Skys.
