Why boarding an airplane feels unfair and chaotic

Boarding an airplane these days can be as vexing as enduring the flight itself. Mobs of passengers elbow past each other to get close to the boarding aisle, only to find that there’s no apparent rhyme or reason to their boarding order. For those braving the skyways during the hectic summer travel season, this might help explain why. (qz.com) Más...

Wouldn't it be cool to have the overhead compartments color coded to match your ticket? Blue ticket, your stuff has to go into one of the blue overhead bins, etc. Or how about making the overhead bins stay locked until your bar code ticket unlocks the bin in your section? A rear seated passenger couldn't open a bin at the front of the plane. With all of the security and electronic stuff they put on micro-chips now, it seems that this sort of solution merits further research.

That would make sense - but airline bean counters are the ones with the final decision.

It's only unfair when the one's seated in the back have filled the middle cabin overheard compartments with their krap. I've pulled out their stuff and dumped it in the aisle replacing it with mine.
