Drone Pilots Find it Hard to Balance Warfighting With Personal Lives
U.S. Air Force drone pilots are overworked, according to a report issued last week by the Government Accountability Office. The GAO report, “Actions Needed to Strengthen Management of Unmanned Aerial System Pilots,” notes that remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) are so important to battlefield commanders that the Air Force has tripled the number of drone pilots since 2008. At the same time, their workload has increased. (www.airspacemag.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Well,2 of the 3 locations are less than desirable as far as normality goes, but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I cannot see being a drone pilot without being a manned aircraft pilot first but that's just me. If they went "in theater" for a year or so and then came back, what would they do for the next 3-4 years? There will always be some in every service that look down on a particular career field. If it is the ones that deal out promotions, that could be a problem. USAF went to a points system on promotion years ago but there are only so many slots in a given career field/location.
