The top Canadian official probing a request by planemaker Bombardier Inc (BBDb.TO) for aid to support its new CSeries passenger jet on Monday indicated for the first time that Ottawa actively wanted to help the company, highlighting the number of jobs it provides. Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains until now has said merely that the Liberal government would closely examine Bombardier's request for $1 billion in aid and outlined some of the concessions he wants in return. Concern over future U.N. aircraft emissions standards was a factor in a Delta Air Lines Inc deal announced this week to buy 75 new CS100 jets from Bombardier Inc, a Delta executive said on Friday. Airlines have made great efforts to update their tech, including replacing bulky flight manuals with iPads. But pilot teams still receive flight information updates the same way they've been doing for decades: over radio voice comms, as current wireless solutions don't support high-enough volume data transfer. Airbus Defence & Space has carried out the maiden flight of a larger twin-tailed variant of its Zephyr high-altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS). The Zephyr T has four times the payload capacity of the current Zephyr 8 at 20kg (44lb), and has been developed as a result of customer requirements for the HAPS to be able to carry a radar.
