FAA Provides $8 Billion in Airport Rescue Grants

Enviado

The U.S. Department of Transportations Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award $8 billion in grants to keep U.S. airport workers employed, construction projects going and help U.S. airports recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding for the grants comes from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 President Biden signed into law on March 11, 2021. (www.einnews.com) Más...

Our local airport bought three massive snowblowers the last time the cash train drove through showering money on airports. Each is capable of removing five feet deep snow in one pass. It hasn't snow3ed more than 2 feet deep (and that is exceedingly rare) in the past thirty five years. Money well spent? NOT!

At the time, people asked 'Why?' The answer was 'Because if we didn't use it, we wouldn't get the same amount or more the next time.' *sigh*

Pathetic response. As an airport manager, we were (are) given amazing flexibility on how we can spend this money. The most popular way (at least around me) has been by applying it to payroll expenses or through other airport improvements for safety; however, that seems a little on the iffy side of things.

Why hasn't anyone called out that these infusions basically make airlines public owned since tax dollars are what's keeping them afloat? Why are we still spending hundreds if not thousands on flight costs without an increase in services? I say let the airlines fail since they have been failing us since deregulation.
