Alaska Airlines is going to roll out a San Francisco Giants Airbus A321

Makes you wonder how much of this is being offered for consolation out of the VRD buyout, seeing that VRD is right next to the Giant's home deck, in Burlingame... They'll want to maintain that connection, especially seeing how ASA also flies to OAK, and may not have such a similar cozy relationship with the Oakland A's.
IMHO, I think the A's are irrelevant in this matter; VRD already had a HUGE partnership with SFG (not sure how much you're familiar with SF Bay or been to any of the Giants games??). SFG's club level has been known as the "Virgin America Club Level" for the past several years (not mentioned in article). Then there is also a separate area in outer right field, that's the exclusive "Virgin America Suite" that's mentioned in the article. The main escalator tunnel leading up to the Club Level has VRD's infamous mood lights.
This sponsorship deal is just a renewal of what was VRD's prior commitment. Just because they service OAK airport, it has no bearings on the A's team itself unless ASA themselves already had an existing sponsorship with them, then yes - this would be a conflict of interest.
