SpaceX gets federal clearance for South Texas launch site

SpaceX has received a green light from the Federal Aviation Administration to construct a spaceport in South Texas. The proposed 56.5-acre launch site at Boca Chica beach would launch up to 12 rockets a year, including two Falcon 9 Heavy rockets, which could begin flying in 2015. If I understand correctly, that is why NASA has handed this over to SpaceX. Give them the "boring, easy stuff" so NASA can focus effort and money on the more complicated, far reaching exploration.

That's is awesome. The dawn of new era with space flight and privately owned companies running the show. Can you imagine the billionaires leasing flights for all kinds of purposes. Date night and shoving more satellites into orbit.
