American Airlines increases flight attendant holiday pay after operational meltdown
American Airlines is giving flight attendants who work during the holidays a one-time holiday pay premium, the company announced in an internal memo. The increased holiday pay comes after an operational meltdown during Halloween weekend, which forced the airline to cancel thousands of flights partly due to staffing shortages. at one time, being a flight attendant was considered a "dream job", with great benefits, and except for required "reserve" status,at the beginning, (being "on call"),had time off for a person to do other things..now the airlines are having trouble filling those positions, because no one wants to go to work in "tactical gear"(unless you are in the military)to protect yourself from physical harm..offering these bonuses might help keep the current crews, and as an incentive for those who might have been furloughed to say yes to coming back...
i might add, the way people are behaving now on the phone or in person to not only airline personnel, but anyone they encounter,is disgraceful..i am not sure we can get back to "civility" the way it used to be..basically,agree to disagree, but not be physically or verbally abusive..
